DAE alumnus Christien Meindertsma is exhibiting two projects called SOLO and FLAX. The Solo exhibition will be held in Audax Textile museum (Tilburg, the Netherlands) from February 11 till June 3. The Flax exhibition is organized in the ‘Zeeuws Museum’ (Middelburg, the Netherlands) until September 23. All the works of Christien are based on her research about the origin of raw materials.
Christien’s opinion is that the consumer is alienated from the source of daily things out of life. With the SOLO exhibition she will make clear the necessary of consciousness. Christien made among other things a whole collection of wool sweaters. One piece consists of one sheep’s wool! There will be several projects shown in Textile museum in Tilburg of Christien. All these works are made in the past nine years by the DAE alumnus. Three of the projects have a scoop: ‘One sheep sweater 2011’, ‘Wild bonne china’ and ‘Wild tea herbarium’.
The ‘Zeeuws Museum’ in Middelburg will show the project FLAX of Christien Meinderstsma. She did research about the ‘forgotten’ textile of the collection of the Zeeuws Museum. Christien has a fascination for flax, what is resulted in a unique exhibition. Flax is processed for centuries in the neighbourhood of Middelburg and is visually dominant there.
With her projects she answered questions like: What can you make of the wool of only one sheep? What products are made of one pig? And what could be possible with flax? Christien discovered the ‘how’ and ‘why’ of these questions. Her research resulted in new products with most of the time local companies involved.
