Mieke Cuppen, design duo DejongKalff and designer Sander Lucas are the three finalists to proceed to the final round of the Mercure Cultuurprijs. The jury selected their designs from a total of 62 entries. The designs will be elaborated by the nominees into prototypes, which they will present to the jury. The winning design will be announced on November 29 during the award evening at Mercure Amsterdam aan de Amstel.
Ron Blaauw, Renny Ramakers, Ranti Tjan, Kees van Twist, Gerrit Uittenbogaard, Hebe Verstappen and jury president Caro Eekelen constitute the jury of the Mercure Cultuurprijs. They evaluated all the designs on five criteria: design, material, functionality, innovative design and if it fits in a hotel environment. Because of the high quality of the entries it was difficult for the jury to choose the three best designs, but in the end the jury reached an unanimous decision.
Mieke Cuppen
Mieke is a Food Designer engaged in creative food concepts. In 2008, she completed the study ‘Man and Well Being’, which she studied at the Design Academy Eindhoven. Mieke’s design 'Ambigu' is nominated by the jury for it’s elegant design and because all the different elements look wonderful as a whole. In addition, her choice of colors and the design exudes tranquility.
Sander Lucas
Sander Lucas completed his study "Man and Leisure 'at the Design Academy in Eindhoven in 2002. With his design 'Grandiose Dinner" Sander wants the user to experience that nothing is normal. His design has been nominated by the jury because it is simple but original and the design is very distinct.
