As of 15 March 2020, the Dutch Government has called on Universities of Applied Sciences to suspend offering on-site education up to and including 06 April 2020. This is part of its strategy to control the spread of the novel Coronavirus Covid-19. We believe the right decision is to close the academy and cease all on-site teaching up to 06 April 2020.
The safety and health of our students and staff are paramount. We also feel a strong responsibility to the local community in Eindhoven and The Netherlands, particularly those who are more vulnerable. DAE's applied educational programme includes various craft workshops and involves students and tutors working side by side, which cannot be replicated with online lectures. However, some elements of our teaching can continue virtually. Due to the individual character of guidance within the MA programmes, the education of Master’s students will proceed online, including end-of-term finals for the current trimester. Remote-teaching and assessment options for the BA curriculum will be explored and developed over the next week. As a school full of creatives, we are uniquely placed to rise to this challenge and develop novel ways of thinking and making and novel ways of educating. DAE’s Executive Board is working with the heads, programme managers, coordinators and tutors of each department to ensure we can offer an appropriate, supportive policy for all of our students. We will update our community as we develop new solutions and when the school reopens. The Executive Board asks for your understanding in this exceptional situation.
