Radical education visionary with international flair and grand ambitions Jan Lucassen (1937), former director of the Design Academy Eindhoven, died on 21 May 2017. He took over at the helm of the academy in 1983 and held the position for fifteen years. During this period, the academy, then called the Academie voor Industriële Vormgeving Eindhoven, developed into a leading international institute that was synonymous with Dutch Design. He oversaw a radical modernization of the school and its relocation to new accommodation, paving the way for today’s immensely popular Dutch Design Week.
