27 students of department Forum from Design Academy Eindhoven (DAE) visited Istanbul in December 2014 for a research project. Forum is the department that focuses on the social and cultural context of design. The students are asked to use a wide variety of research methods to investigate a certain topic. This year the overall theme was craftsmanship. DAE Students presented their research topics in SALT Galata to students from the department industrial design and the department urban and regional planning both at Istanbul Technical University (ITU)
In the following days DAE and ITU students set out to explore the different topics all over the city of Istanbul. This multilayered metropolis offers an endless range of stories and examples on the subject of craft and craftsmanship and it’s meaning in relation to design. This collaboration project has resulted in documentaries, books and objects. The following pages will give you an insight in the students processes and the methods used during their research in Istanbul.
