On Friday 22 November, students from the department of Man and Communication are presenting an interactive sound, light and technology experience in NatLab, a newly opened historic site of Dutch creative and scientific exploration.
The performance, titled ‘MAN [MADE GODS] AND COMMUNICATION’ is a constructed landscape of prospective experiences, statements and simulations, an interactive orchestra which confronts the complexities of everyday life.
The show pays homage to the pioneering explorations of its venue, Natlab. The former research and development department of Philips in the Netherlands, Natuurkundig Laboratorium, was the site of pioneering electronic music explorations by Dick Raaijmakers (Kid Baltan) and Tom Dissevelt between 1954 and 1960 as well as the incubator for Le Corbusier, Iannis (Yean) Xénakis and Edgard Varèse’s le Poème Électronique, which was commissioned by Philips for the 1958 World’s Fair in Brussels.
