DAE graduate Dennis Parren is interviewed by the magazine Bmm, an Italian fashion magazine that entered the large scale distribution circuit national and international. In the interview Dennis says: “What I like about Dutch Design is the ‘out of the box’ way of thinking. Never take something for granted. Things are not always what they seem. You can’t really say “that a chair is red”. Actually, the chair is reflecting red light while absorbing green and blue light.”
Dennis Parren graduated from design department Man and Living with the CMYK lamp. His lamp was for the first time on display during the Graduation Show of Design Academy Eindhoven(2011), where newly graduated students are given a unique platform to showcase their work and where they hope to leave their mark in the world of design. Dennis Parren tells about the importance of the artistic aspects in his work: “With this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity in mind I decided my creation needed to be as far from what’s obvious and predictable as possible. Also, I wanted to be as true to myself as I possibly could. These principles have led to my design of the CMYK lamp. It is not designed to demonstrate how and why, but to show that light is the true guardian of colour. So, no, my aim wasn’t to make a product. I wanted to show what led lighting could be.”
