Thursday June 7, the awards ceremony of 'Brains Award 2012' took place.
DAE student Anne van Strien won the 'Leefbaarheids' Award (€ 5.000,-) with her project 'Grensgebieden'.
Anne is a student of design department Man and Public Space.
'Grensgebieden' (border areas)
Changing a 'hard' boundary (such as a fench or a door) between a collective space and a public space into a 'soft' boundary by stretching these borders, results in a space instead of a separation between these two worlds.
In this way, the two worlds will be connected to each other, instead of separated from each other. You can be part of the collective space, while being in the public space. And the other way around.
For example, the entrance of retirement home Wilgenhof got stretched. The bus shelter in front of it, got stretched till the entrance of Wilgenhof.
So while waiting for the bus, for just one moment you can be part of Wilgenhof. When it's cold or raining, you can wait in the dry and warm entrance hall.
New exciting areas will arise, where for a moment two adjacent worlds can meet each other. This creates meaningful areas for Eindhoven and its residents. It suits very well in the current time of integrating places and people, so sustainable connections will arise in the city.
