From This to These: Progressive Copying

Inspiration can come in many forms. For Niko Leung, it came in the shape of a picture of an ancient Japanese Buddhist drum that she encountered in a book. This sparked a quest to take the drum’s core characteristics such as its shape, decorative patterns and context, and explore endless new possibilities. And so, From This to These: Progressive Copying reinterprets the same artefact in countless different ways − from a teapot to a hat to a lollipop stand. Despite the many imaginative transformations, all the designs still evoke the same age-old, ritualistic sensation of the original drum.
