Re-Distance of Technology

Technology is omnipresent. Devices are getting faster, smaller, and closer to us. Wearables are taking over and implants are already here. And on a simpler note: smart phones are always within hand’s reach. Do you feel that you are becoming too intimate with your devices? That there’s no escaping the march of technology or the speed of its advance? Liang Chun Liu has created a different reality that does offer an escape. In this parallel world, our bodies are internet-signal insulators that are the opposite of what you would expect. The closer your phone gets, the lower the internet speed. Clever as we are, we will build tools to hack this limitation. Tie your phone to a big balloon if you’re into music, use a selfie stick with telescope to watch online movies or yo-yo your precious device out the window for heavy downloads. This will create a welcome distance and enough space to rethink our relationship with technology.
