The Tables of Eindhoven
The words ‘dates’, ‘memory’ and ‘social’ kept going around in Ardie van Bommel’s head. She searched for a date which all sons and daughters of Eindhoven have in common. The answer: 1 January 1920. On that date, five neighbouring villages were consolidated with Eindhoven. For The Tables of Eindhoven, Ardie van Bommel designed six tables symbolising the history of the city’s six districts. The idea is for each of the tables to stand for an entire year in its own respective district, except on 1 January, when all six will stand together in the main reception hall of the town hall. Traces of use, e.g., coffee and wine stains, give each table its own identity.
